Meet Dr. Thompson

Devoted to providing a fully integrated approach to health and wellness, Dr. Marcel Thompson is pleased to offer a number of highly personalized services to Women, Men, and Couples alike at Venus Restorative Health and Wellness Center in Houston, TX. Dr. Thompson treats individuals throughout the Greater Houston area and addresses a range of concerns, including general wellness, sexual health, and hormonal imbalances. Dr. Thompson utilizes his 25 years of experience to tailor each treatment to the unique needs of his patients.

Education And Training

A native Houstonian, Dr. Thompson attended the High School for Health Professions and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree from Prairie View A&M University. Dr. Thompson received his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then went on to complete his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA before serving as a military doctor in the U.S. Army for six years. He combines his osteopathic training, medical experience and his subsequent trainings in non-surgical procedures for women and men with his holistic approach to medicine to address the total health and wellness of each of his patients.

Specialties And Expertise

With a board certification in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Marcel Thompson has long been an advocate for women’s health issues as well as the underinsured in our community. He served as the Women’s Health Director at Hope Asian Community Health Clinic and was also a Physician at Legacy Community Health Clinic here in Houston, TX. He sat on the Texas Medical Association Select Committee (which handled and represented those on Medicaid, CHIP, and the uninsured); and was recognized by the director of the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and was subsequently appointed to the HHSC Medicaid and CHIP Regional Advisory Committee. 

Community Involvement

Dr. Thompson is exceedingly passionate about community involvement and dedicates a large portion of his time to make improvements to the livelihoods of many individuals throughout Houston, TX. In the past, he served as the state vice-chair for programs with the March of Dimes Texas chapter. He was also a board member of the Austin Area Urban League and had a role in the Texas Medical Association select committee, which handled and represented those on Medicaid, CHIP, and the uninsured.

At one point, Dr. Thompson was recognized by the director of the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and was subsequently appointed to the HHSC Medicaid and CHIP Regional Advisory Committee. He also served as president for the Harris County Medical Society Southwest Branch and was recently elected as a member of the association’s Socio-Economic Committee.

Personal

Dr. Thompson and his wife of 25 years are the proud parents of three children and share a passion for promoting health and wellness in women, children and families.
